good evening

Tonight I've had a visit from T and E. Having friends over for dinner on a "school night" is such a good way of making a boring Thursday a good day. Eating alone is not so fun. We cooked home-made meatballs in tomato-sauce and ate chocolate for desert. Perfect. And they brought gifts! Very seasonally suitable: autumn coloured tea-lights and Marimekko napkins, and a beautiful bouquet with all kinds of pretty. Makes me all warm inside and it all fits perfectly on the dining table! Thank you thank you!

what I have done today instead of ironing clothes

1. Home improvement, sort-of.  I had some material (white flower-grid-thingy and a bit of cardboard of a convenient size) that I did not know what do do with, and I really needed to hide the miss-coloured, boring white wall behind the computer screen with something. Add some clothes-pins and wrapping paper - and voilà! Definitely not my best DIY, but slightly better than nothing...

2. Writing letters. I decided that some of my water-colour creations could travel the world and visit some of my nice pen-palls.

3. New music. One of the best things with reading blogs it that they can be so inspiring when it comes to music, film and books. Today I discovered Allo Darlin'. After listening to some of the songs I can truely say that some of them will be added to my "best right now"-play list on the iPod. How can you not like songs with names like "If Loneliness was Art" and "The Polaroid Song"? And I especially like Kiss Your Lips for the simple reason that they have stolen a couple of phrases from one of my old favourite songs as a teenager: El Scorcho by Weezer.

4. Dinner in front of Skype. Talking to A in a hotel-room in London. Miss you! Tortellini, tomatoes and parmesan.

Another beautiful autumn day in Stavanger. Coming home from work I realised that I should enjoy that somehow, but I am not one to take long walks or things like that, at least not by myself. Anywho. I decided that it was way to long ago since I did some watercolour painting, and that this splendid activity would be something that could take place on my balcony. Watercolour is not a media that I master, unfortunately, but I have many inspiring friends that occupy themselves with this. I can't get any worse by training, and it was really nice - although a bit too cold - to sit in the bleak sun for an hour or so splashing around. The results are not worth showing here though.

I was thinking what the best music would be to accompany watercolour-painting? I just got to the conclusion that neither Metallica nor Elvis worked, but Nancy Sinatra and Air got pretty close. Any ideas?

sooo, I'm just minding my own business, carrying stuff down to our storage room, listening to "Lovecats" by the Cure as I dance down the stairs - and then I meet these guys! Little Brother and Little Sister Super-cute-and-cuddly. And their mum. It was such an Aaaaw-moment I had to bring the camera for my next trip down there and hope for the best. Fortunately they were still hanging around.

And here they are, investigating A's bike. They were nosy but shy, so I could not touch them... They looked so soft!
Oh, I had never seen the Lovecats video before. the verdict: Slightly scary and uncomfortable but I still get all nostalgic about it.

sunday songs

This is what I listen to tonight, when I sort through my autumn and winter clothes, eat garlic bread and miss my friends in Sweden.

cabin fever

I am still sick, and now A has gone away for a week-long course. I am a bit annoyed that I have missed so much fun this weekend just because I feel bad, but it has not been a totally waste of time. To begin with - A came home with a bunch of beautiful roses yesterday to cheer me up. It worked!

I'm in the process of finishing two new paintings, just some final touches left. I'll give you a sneak peak though:

A got a package delivered on Friday and the content was hidden in lovely pale green 8s. I really want to use them for something, I don't know what yet... I'll get back to that.

Beware. This post is a tribute.

I bring my iPod Nano with me everywhere I go. A normal day starts with me walking to work, listening to a audio-book, giving me 25 minutes of exercise and excitement. At work I listen to music, usually I just put the iPod on shuffle and allow myself to be surprised at the amount of weird music I have forgot that I have on it. The walk home is just the same as the walk to work. At home I listen to music when I paint, and books when I do something boring, like ironing. Most of the nights I fall asleep to a book, it is especially necessary if I feel stressed - then it takes my mind away from thoughts that could otherwise keep me awake. What would I do without it!? Well, I'd be more social, probably...

on the 24th of September 2009 I had my second out of five lessons in a photo course my brother gave me for my birthday. The theme for the day was portraits. This is what I looked like back then.

And here are some of the pictures I took during the course.

theme: one colour
theme: lines

not the best start of a weekend

I have a cold. And the weather is not so good. I did not feel up for the traditional "Friday-Burger". So I sit in front of the computer, and smile about all the funny things, nice people and energetic music that is out there.

This has been a very good weekend. Yesterday morning we took a flight to Oslo, the capital capital of this our second home country. We left a rainy Stavanger behind and got to the big city which had a much nicer feeling of sunny, chilly autumn.  We checked into our hotel -  hotell Bristol - which was very nice in a classic way. It is situated just a minute from Karl Johann.
A cup of ice coffe and a biscotti is a nice way to start a day of shopping and exploration
After a few hours of shopping (I bought three dresses and a skirt...) we ended up at the wonderful diner-like restaurant Dakota on Olaf Reyes Plass. I had got the idea of going there from another blog - can't remember which one just now - but it was a really good advise. The burgers tasted delicious, they played good music - Beach Boys, Elvis and Edit Piaff - and the service was good.
After dinner we went to the Concert Hall for the real reason we were going to Oslo this time -  John Cleese! It was a show where he mostly  talked about his life, his career, his mother.... He really is very funny... I especially loved when he talked about Monty Python. I have no pictures of this, I was not allowed to take any - and I am a very law abiding person...
However. After the show we ended the night with a drink in the fancy hotel bar.
On sunday morning we had a huge breakfast at the hotel buffet... The breakfast is my main focus when I choose a hotel by the way, I could definitely come back here!
We had to go to the airport quite soon after checking out, that was a bit sad since the weather was beautiful, but all in all, we had a really nice trip!
And I came home not only with some new clothes - this little guy wanted to move to Stavanger as well, and I was very happy to oblige.

weekend getaway

Tonight I've had a friday-burger with some friends a t Sting, and now I'm packing: tomorrow we'll be off to Oslo. I'll tell you all about it when I get back...

I'm ending this Friday with a song. Some nostalgia...

Memories in a vase

I grow this flower on my balcony. I really like them, because they climb and grow and get all colourful and nice-smelling. I don't usually bring them inside, but now that I have, I suddenly remember where I have smelled them before. They remind me of my grand-mother. They must have grown in their garden, or she had a soap or something that smelled like this. I don't have to find out why they remind me of her, it just made me really happy to remember.

Moody Monday

I still can't get rid of this low, unenergized feeling I have had for the last few days and to try to remedy that I took a small shopping tour after work, before meeting T at the gym. I made a quick stop at Fretex to see if they had any little item that could cheer me up. They did!
This little iron-birdie-book-support flew home with me...

...together with this tiny porcelain-bunny...
... and two swans on a jewellery-box. It's all rosy-red inside!

If you have not noticed yet, I really like animals. I can't have a pet in this apartement, so I just have to surround myself with alternatives. It's not good enough, but I try to endure.

Now I'm going to eat tortellini with A and then we're off to the monthly Unicef-quiz.

if I did not have a boyfriend no:1

.. I might go back in time to 1968 and hunt for this guy.

gray day

I have promied myself that I wont whine in this blog, that I really should focus on positive stuff, not for your sake - but for my own. Some days that is harder than others - I have been looking really hard for the shiny things today. I tried to think happy thoughts about the rain pounding on my window - waking me up at 7 even though it is Saturday - and it worked for a while. It is pretty cosy, especially when you can just stay in bed. When I was walking in to the city to go shopping with T, E & B, the rain was not so cosy any more.

I have had a really slow, low energy day, but I am not all that disappointed for that. Rain can be quite pretty, and at least I do not have to feel bad for just hanging out in the couch.

... and, when all else fail...

doop doop

Music-recommendation of the week: This song has been playing a lot on my iPod this weekend. Can't help but smile when I hear it and that's always a good quality. The video was a huge disappointment how ever, so just shut your eyes.

another weekend

after work on Friday I put my pink shoes on and went in to town to have a traditional "Friday-burger" in the sunshine. I ended up not having a burger, but a beer instead, time was short and we needed to catch a bus...

...and continue on  to T's house-warming party. She had painted some of her new walls in a happy yellow.

After some very nice talk, food and drink we ended up dancing at Alf & Werner.

Yesterday was a good day as well but very unplanned, so I did not bring my camera. We started with a Club-sandwich brunch at Déja Vú were we met some friends. Some of them was going kayaking in Stokkavatnet and we decided to tag along. Due to some bad time management - again - we did not reach the kayak-place in time, so we ended up just going for a walk a long the lake. Very pretty. After an extremely tasty ice-cream (cherry and white chocolate with forest fruit for me) me and A went home. We saw the last episode of Dexter season 3 and A a splendid seafood pasta sauce.

Today I've been lazy... But I have installed the new shelf I found at IKEA's bargain corner on Tuesday. It fitted in nicely, and finally I could get some of the stuff away from the actual desk.

I still have a big inclination for black and white fabrics. I have made some efforts to add some more colour into the apartment, on of these I'll show sometimes soon.

Tonight we'll probably go to the "kino" = the cinema. I'm not sure what we'll see yet, but it will just be nice to get out. I'll return with a review later on!

Wednesday, 1 September 2010

I have now updated this humble little blog with another page. under "paintings and stuff" I'll present, well, paintings and stuff. As I produce them. Welcome to take a look.

Today the weather was nice and I came home bit early from work. My plan was to sit at the balcony for a while, but going out there I realised that the neighbour have hired some people to paint their balcony - and they were now standing 1 meter from mine. So that balcony was not a place for relaxation today. So I went to the swimming pool with A instead.
