check, check, check

Today's Outfit: Green sock with paint.stains. Trendy.

I've had a remarkable productive day at the house! I had a very ambitious to-do list written down before going to the house after work, and didn't really expect that I would manage to do half of the stuff on it, but I left just before nine and had checked all of the things from my list! The living-room is now painted in the right colour of blue, (or so I hope, I must check in daylight tomorrow...) I painted some details in the kitchen that we didn't have time for this weekend and most importantly - I painted the staircase (well, the steps) and the hallway floor. And that was a bit of a challenge I can tell you, that commanded planning skills and deliberation. I had to paint myself in an all to real corner, and actually out of the front door. I didn't really get a good look on the result before leaving, it was a bit dark and I was halfway outside, but from what I could tell it's a pretty huge difference.

a gift

See these pretty ear-studs? My friends E know that I love bird-prints and animal-related accessories, so when she found these on a trip to Australia, she bought them for me!

Thanks E - they are lovely!

progress

I'm still here, we're still working hard on the house and we're making progress! After 10 days of "holiday" over Easter when we really got some stuff done, last week was more of a scouting week when we tried to figure out what to do with the floors in the kitchen and the bedroom and what kitchen appliances to buy, but this weekend my dad came over from Sweden to help us and we got loads of things done in the kitchen! All of the difficult things that I have agonized a bit about is now over and done with, at least almost all of the things. So that's a big relief, thanks Dad!

Today we laid the carpet in the study - really easy, and I got some more painting done... And I bought the first piece of new "furniture" for the house, this white desk-lamp. I'm thinking the study will be very white, very uncluttered and very peaceful... One can hope.

The study: First room to be finished! I can see the end!

le Misanthrope

Today I went to the theatre with my friend E. We saw the Misanthrope by Moliere on Rogalands Teater, and it was such a great experience! Wonderful dialogue, great costumes, fabulous acting and fantastic music and choreography. Pure joy. If you're in Stavanger this is a must see. Here's a bit of a teaser I found on Rogalands Teaters homepage:

jag tror vi tar en liten sång på det, för att pigga upp

What Easter?!

This week has both felt like an eternity and like a short moment. Me and A have spent almost every waking moment working in the new house, and afterwards gone back to the apartment and pretty much just ended up in the couch in front of the TV for the rest of the evening. It was lucky E & B had us over for Easter-dinner last weekend otherwise we wouldn't have celebrated at all!

the to-do-list.
Yesterday we started with the most daunting project in the whole house: the kitchen. I'm a little bit freaked out over the kitchen, and woke up 6:10 this morning and spend the next hours obsessing over how to install all of the new appliances we have yet to buy, wondering if there might be any issues with damp in the floor, and pondering what kind of new floor to go for there. Luckily ma dad is coming over next weekend to help us, and I think some of these issues can be solved then. Until then we have at least started with one of the kitchen projects - painting the cabinets! Or at least, the doors. And we have only just primed them so far, but they already look so much better.

cabinet-doors drying on the living-room floor. Also a sneak-peek of the baby-blue walls we're going to re-paint.

And again, I apologise for the bad photo-quality. I have not brought my camera to the house yet, so this is only iPhone pictures. But on the upside, there will be an even bigger difference when comparing the "before" and "after" pictures.

living-room blues

We're making progress at the house, working 8-10 hours a day with all of the never ending painting projects, but yesterday came the first real set-back: On Wednesday we had decided on colours for all the walls we're going to paint this week, and dragged about 40 litres of paint back from the store, but after painting the living-room in what we hoped was the perfect nuance of blue we realised that either we've got the wrong paint or the result from the sample and the real thing can vary a lot. So now we have to wait until Tuesday when the stores open again until we can finish this room. Darn.

the perfect nuance of blue - in this case the one to the right, on top. NCS S 2010-B, if do not remember incorrectly. The result now resembles the one below.

start

so, the renovation has begun! We got the keys to our house (!) on friday, and have been working hard ever since, only to break for some serious Easter Egg-hunting  at E&B's yesterday. Unfortunatley my camera and the computer doesn't want to communicate right now, so I have to wait to show you the "before" pictures.
Easter Egg- hunt. This is before it started snowing... I found one!
