New years resolutions for 2014

I'm a sucker for new years resolutions. I admit I'm not all that good at fulfilling them, but I love the idea of a new start every year. This year, I've decided to give myself a better chance of actually living up to some of the plans I have, so I decided to not have a new years resolution... but 15! And they are all connected with my over all goal for this year, to generally increase my energy and well-being. When I look back on 2013 I remember being tired and not really feeling up to doing stuff, so this is how I plan to make 2014 my energetic year:

  1. Cook more good food
  2. Go out dancing more often
  3. Be able to do 30 push-ups
  4. Spend more time with friends
  5. Use my pretties shoes more often
  6. Try something new
  7. Buy more organic food
  8. Spend less money, save more
  9. Invite friends home more often
  10. Paint, sketch and create stuff more
  11. Start doing yoga
  12. Drink more water and less coffee
  13. Play more with the cats
  14. Paint my nails more
  15. Go on more long walks

If I were to summarize 2013 besides the tiredness, it's been a very good year. I turned 30 and was celebrated over and over again, I had very red hair, I got a promotion at work, we went on an amazing surf-trip to Morocco, I got to spend one day as a zoo-keeper at London Zoo and me, A and the cats were happy in our tiny house.

Hello again

So, I'm back after my annual Christmas-Sweden-tour and a couple of days as a recluse with A, the cats and movies. I've had a great Christmas, and it's been nice to meet my family and some of my very good friends that I don't meet often enough. I got some very nice and exciting Christmas-gifts, some of which will soon appear on the blog, but in the meanwhile - here's a picture of A with the cardboard deer-head-kit he got from me. Happy happy!

The Tree is in da House!

I'm in Sweden celebrating Christmas. I don't have internet access a lot of the time since I'm spending my days going back and forth visiting friends and family. But anyway, the tree is dressed, all the gifts are bought and wrapped. I'll see you in a couple of days.

the last real Monday of 2013

I just realized that there's only two Mondays left of 2013 and I wont be working on any of them! But I didn't really work today either, I went home before lunch because I'm sick. I have a cold. But I will not be put down, I'll still present the 3 best things about his Monday

1. Kleenex. After blowing your nose in a full roll of toilet paper a smooth and soft Kleenex-tissue is a treasure, like a early Christmas gift for the nose.

2. A's iPad. I'm not sure if he left it at home on purpose or if he just forgot to bring it to work, but an iPad with Netflix on is your best friend when you have to spend time in bed but sneeze to much to be able to fall asleep.

3. Hearing a tiny sigh somewhere in the room, turning around and finding Hugo sleeping half a meter away from me on the floor. That little noise, it's so cute!

The DailyShow - War on Christmas

Starting off my Saturday by eating gingerbread in bed (bad idea) and watching the DailyShow on my phone. Have fun with this:

War on Christmas - S#@t's Getting Weird Edition: Fox News clears up the historical record on Santa Claus.

13 the 13th

Today, on Friday the 13 of December 2013, me and A celebrate 13 years since we started dating. It's going pretty well, I'd say! Since we both have a cold we're celebrating snuggled up in bed with Netflix on the iPad and a bottle if sparkling wine. Might be the best way of celebrating that I can imagine.

Thrift shop beauties

On my wishlist from Fretex this year:

- Mid-century wall clock
- comfy yet small easy chair that matches the sofa table (but needs new clothes)
- awesome lamp and stylish chair

I miss my glasses

Yesterday I left my glasses to get fitted with new glass, to help with my stupid double vision-thingy. So today I had to wear my back-up glasses that are just frames I chose in literary two seconds at the optician. They are way, way, way to big and very uncomfortable.

Maybe it would all be better if i had a lizard on my head.

They do fight, sometimes. And chase each-other trough the house making as much noise as a small tornado (two 7 kg cats clomping down the stairs is louder then you'd think) but most of the time they like chillin'. And they always hog the remote controls, falling asleep on top of the all the time.

what I wore and other things about today

You know how after you've had really tough workout, your body (if you are not very fit) feels the worst two days after? Today I have muscle soreness. In the backside of my thighs. And two days ago? I was in a spa! And then I went home and baked! I just don't get it. I must be in the worst shape of my life...
In other news, today I'm going out to dinner with A's work. I don't know what to wear. But this is what I had on for work today, except the shoes: wearing this kind of shoes in December in Stavanger would be a joke, but they are my favorite ones and too pretty not to be taken out for a walk sometimes, even if it's only around the living room. The skirt is new/old, bought from Beyond Retro the last time I was in Gothenburg. The blouse is from Aberdeen I think, but I'm way to lazy to take it off to see what brand it is, sorry. This look is maybe more autumn-y then winter-y, because of the mustard, but it's 8 degrees C and raining outside, so you can't blame me for being confused about these things...

Cat and dog

As we all know cats are more stylish than dogs, so it's no surprise Cat dressed up for the occasion and Dog just relied on his pretty face.

Monday, again

So, it's Monday and there's nothing we can do about it. I'm choosing, once again, to try to look at this the least joyful day of the week in the best light possible, by listing the top three events of the day.

1. The cats. Always the cats. Burying my nose in Crickets fur and staring deeply into Hugo eyes. That's therapy right there, you know. Everyone should have a cat, or two.

2. Wrapping Christmas-gifts! A bit early I know, but I always wait until it's too late and I actually rather like taking my time and making the gifts pretty so, this year I'm changing my tactics. Plus, now I'm going to forget what's in the packages so it will be a surprise for me too, double the fun!!!

3. Listening to the podcast made by Karin&Sara. These are two marvelous women, I tell you. I listened while I was wrapping my gifts, and then continued to listen while I was doodling a bit, and made a portrait of the two, that's how inspired I got. And it definitely lifted my Monday spirits. If you are ever bored, start following this podcast. In Swedish, though.

gingerbread-Tardis 2.0

I'm not even going to link back to my first attempt at portraying this iconic structure/ship/box but instead I'm going to focus on the here and now and just conclude that "if at first you don't succeed..." and so on. On my second try I did actually have a picture of the Tardis near by, on my phone, so at least I manage to get closer when it comes to the actual shape. The color is a diferent story,  because this time I experimented, mixed and tested and even so, the best I came up with was the exact same nuance of baby blue that I got the first time. Oh well. At least I think people can actually tell what I was aiming for here, and not just seeing a pool-colored outhouse.

And yes, I know it kind of looks like it says "police boy" instead of "police box" but hey, nobody likes a smart ass.

The most difficult meal of the day

It's stupid how hard it can be to eat breakfast... I sometimes have the best routines when it comes to this meal, eating healthy and fresh food without any problem. But as soon as I get a bit stressed at work, I no longer have an appetite in the morning and simply stop eating anything at all. I've struggled for some weeks now, but this morning I tried to changed things by getting into a new food-routine. I decided my fruit-smoothies made by frozen fruit are a bit to cold and take a bit to long to prepare so this time I tried vanilla yoghurt with almonds, walnuts and honey. My stomach wasn't completely convinced, but a gingerbread cookie helped sweeten the deal.

Christmas candy

This weekend has been all about candy and cookies!! I've baked gingerbread twice and today me and E  spend hours making chocolate-confectionery. This is the real stuff I tell you, yum! Now I'm so full I might not have room for dinner...

mini-weekend at the beach

Directly after work on Friday me and A took off to Solastrand hotel for a mini get-away. I had an appointment at the spa, (which was lovely, by the way) and then we had a very tasty three course dinner, followed by sparkling wine in our room. On Saturday we had breakfast before we hung out at at the relax area for a while, splashing around in the pool and resting in the sauna, and then we went back home! It was perfect to get away and see something new, even though it was just a 20 minute drive away and just for one night. And a big plus? The completely stunning winter weather we woke up to on Saturday! The beach is pretty beautiful even in wintertime...

I actually like the look of the hotel in the 30s better then the modern one

lippy & honey

I very rarely wear lipstick, mostly because I think it looks weird on me, but I'm currently trying to get used to it. In that process I'm also trying to figure out what colors I like. I bought this dark red shade from H&M the other day and even though it a bit on the dark side I kind of like it. It's a good winter color.

It's still feels strange... But I love my new honeycomb-necklace from Etsy-shop SeptemberRoom. Beautiful!

Self portrait - Stormy weather

Thursday, 5 December 2013

Stavanger is in the middle of a storm right now. And it is bloody scary! On my walk home I saw trees and signs fallen down, and now I'm sitting at home listening to the bang! of a plank on the side of our roof that has come partly loose. I'm scared it's going to fly off and damage someone or something! And it's not like I can walk out there, climb on a ladder and nail it back down, that's too dangerous... I'm not happy!

Everyday-style challenge: Mixing patterns

I'm boldly jumping from the first to the fifth of my personal everyday-style challenge project, where I try to wear more of the stuff in my wardrobe instead of buying new things as soon as I'm bored. It's actually rather fun to rediscover items and try to change how I look at the things I already own, figuring out new ways to wear the different pieces together. The experiments aren't always successful, but today I felt pretty good about the result. I choose to mix two patterns that are rather different in style but of the same color-family, so to speak. it turned out pretty well, if I might say so myself. Plus the cat helps. And the bird necklace.

Both skirt, belt and cardigan are old favorites from H&M, tight from Indiska, braid-curls in my hair, and the cat is Hugo

The gingerbread-house fail, Tardis edition

Well. I didn't really put the effort in planning this project as it deserved... I did buy blue food coloring, but more than that, I went with my usual strategy which is making it up as I go along. And I ran in to problem pretty soon...

The roof is supposed to be almost flat, but the structural integrity of a construction of that kind is problematic with this material. And then the color. The Tardis is a true, deep blue. Not baby blue... And then there was the assembly process that caused me two burns on my hands. Melted sugar is hot as H E double hockey-sticks, as they say.  Oh well, practice makes perfect. I still have another batch of gingerbread-dough left, maybe I'll have another go later this week.

December 3rd: What I want for Christmas

This is my wishlist for the Christmas 2013! I'm posting it here as my contribution for today's post in Emily Dahl's blog-advent calendar: "Share what's on you wishlist." Plus it's good that now it's easily accessible for the people who are actually trying to find out what to get for me... More inspiration can be found on my wishlist-board on Pinterest, of course... Enjoy!

  • External flash for my Nicon
  • Gift certificate on iTunes. I buy my audio books from iTunes or Audible. Since I listen to about one a week and they cost a pretty penny, a gift certificate for one of them would come in handy. I'm addicted to audio books..
  • Make up: The perfect mascara. With a pretty thin brush.
  • Flowers

Stuff to do:

  • Personal shopping with Elsa Billgren.  Shopping for vintage clothes with Swedish vintage-expert Elsa in Stockholm has been a dream of mine since she started up that part of her company. I think she's great and shopping second hand is something I wish I could do more (not easy in Stavanger).
  • Photography-course. Actually I've already gotten a photography course from my brother as a gift once, and it was so much fun and such a great and thoughtful gift! That course focused on composition and finding the right objects, but now I wish I could learn more about light, the settings of my camera and how to actually take pictures with high quality.
  • A class in graphic-print-making, or any other kind of art-class, really.
  • Some sessions with a personal trainer. Yep, I need a kick-start.
  • A day at an amusement park. Anywhere.

To my mailbox with love:

I also want this dress, please.

Spending some quality time at Gardemoen Airport

I had a meeting in Oslo today, it ended earlier then expected. I now have some extra time at the airport... And the battery for my phone was running out... Fortunately I had paper and pen and could entertain myself without my dear device. For a while.

December 1st: Christmas countdown

Most years I don't feel like decorating our home for Christmas at all. I don't like red plus we don't spend the Holiday in our house so I usually feel it's kind if unnecessary. But this year I've been in the Christmas spirit since mid November! I have refrained from putting up any Christmas things until today though, since I strongly believe the Christmas should be celebrated only in December. Since most of our Christmas decorations are actually more winter-related than Holiday-related I think that a lot of the stuff will be left hanging until February...

I've spent this whole day Christmas-ifying the house. Cleaning, hanging Christmas-lights and baking gingerbread. Now I'm so tired I probably won't move for the rest of the day.
