Monday 31st of March

A very good Monday as Mondays goes, still I continue on the same theme when it comes to summarizing the best things this the first day of the week

1. Spring. It's definitely here.

2. The Jitterbug Stroll. I started learning a new choreography at my dance class today, and it was so much fun! A bit tricky, though. Luckily YouTube-tutorial exists so I can practice at home...

3. Plans. I have several fun things to look forward to in the near future, a trip to Copenhagen is in the horizon.

gardening delights

Today we've had a prooper spring-day here in Stavanger, and I got started on, and finished, several project in the garden. It's still mainly just preparations obviously, like buying oil for the garden furniture and emptying pots with old soil, but I did get to do some actual gardening as well. I planted some bulbs. I put new compost in the garden patch, I weeded a bit. And the I dug a hole. To make room for the lilac-bush I plan to buy.

It's hard work to dig a hole! And then to find out where to put all of the excess sand you dig out - and where to get soil to fill it up again. Luckily I have a compost...

Friday

On Friday I had a donut.

Then I went dancing. I had a course in boogie-woogie and then we danced Charleston. All night long!

nailbiter

When I was a kid I used to bite my nails. My brother and my dad used to nag me all the time to give this habit up, and I did a couple of times, once after being bribed with a pet hamster... I don't know when I started but I think I was about 13 or 14 when i quit for real and what helped me was to paint my nails. A lot. In a hundred different colors and all kinds of patterns. Nowadays I don't paint them as much or as creatively - though I still have 50 bottles of nail-polish or so, many of them actually dating back to my teenage years. I used to collect colors.

My nails have been in an horrible condition for the last few months, maybe it's because I don't drink enough water, maybe I don't eat enough B-vitamins, but they just keep peeling all the time. I try to get them back in shape by cutting them short and yes, painting them, so I kind of have rediscovered the fun of fancy nails. This time I tried bright red with a pink fake lunula. Did you know that's the name for that half-moon shaped, white inner part of your nail? Now you do.

Hurtigruten

This weekend I went on an adventure - a Norway-cruise, called Hurtigruten. True, it was a very well planned and calm adventure, without any unexpected happenings or dramatic challenges, but still an adventure, of sort. That I shared with about 400 senior citizens and some of my best friends.
We only took part of the northernmost part of this cruise, that goes year round along the Norwegian coast. We flew up to Tromsø and got on the ship (called MS Finnmarken) on Friday afternoon and then got off again and flew back home from Kirkenes on Sunday. Short and sweet. Just like me.

Flying up to Tromsø in a propeller plane. I don't like them...
dinner on board!

On Saturday we went on an excursion to Nordkapp. MS Finnmarken landed in the port of Honningsvåg, and then followed a bus-trip with an hilarious french resident that explained about life in this remote place. Unfortunatelly the weather had taken a turn for the wors so we couldn't really see much of this the Northernmost point of Europe (almost...) But we've been there!

We also had time to eat a giant see-food buffet, play "Cards agains Humanity" in the cabin, drink sweet white wine, and maybe best of all: hang out in the outdoor (on deck?) jacuzzi all by ourselves, in the snow. Brilliant!

outfit/outside

We had another beautiful day here in Stavanger today, and I celebrated with a mango-smoothie in the garden. For an hour or so after work, it was warm enough to only wear a sweater...

Smoothie: 1 frozen banana, 1,5 dl frozen mango, 1,5 dl mango&grape juice, 0,5 dl plain yogurt. Makes two servings.

I inaugurated my "new" skirt that i bought in Oslo a couple of weeks ago today. It's a bit unusual, half pencil-skirt and half pleated skirt, and wholly in wool. I plan to pack it away with my winter-clothes pretty soon, but I hope to get some more use out of it before that.

Skirt: Thrifted at UFF in Oslo, sweater: old one from H&M

Monday, the 24th of March

After a week of really poor updates on this sad little blog I feel like I'm back, bigger and better than ever! Or at least than for weeks! I've been stressed and in a bad mood for pretty much all of February and March, but I feel that things are looking up.

Monday Top Three:

Waking up early. I know, it sounds bad but I actually felt well rested when I woke up this morning - earlier than I use too, to start of the day with a mini-workout pass in the bedroom. Than I had a nice warm shower, made a tasty smoothie and a nice cup of hot tea to enjoy in front of an episode of House M.D and then I put on a red dress and went to work. Good start of the week.

Spring weather. Today we had clear blur skies and the sun felt really warm. I know weather in spring is unreliable, but this time it really feels like winter might be over...

Problem free work-day. Nothing remarkable happened at work today. Nothing huge, nothing bad, nothing really stressful. I had a good meeting with one of my projects, I delivered some drawings and translated a strategy document. Nothing remarkable, but sweetly stress-free.

Adventure

This weekend I'm going out on an adventure! Will be back next week with some - hopefully - nice pictures...

Oslo

I took half the day off from work on Friday and met my mother up for a night of good food, wine and ballet in Oslo. We saw a beautiful interpretation of Pushkin's Onegin in the awesome Opera house. Plus we had some great fish soup in the Opera restaurant...

We woke up the a clear blue sky on Saturday and spend the day walking around mostly in Grünerlökka and browsing through thrift-shops. Both me and Mum made some great finds!

By the way

Today - or rather this week - have been the kind of week where the answer "I rather just hang out with my cats" could have been applicable for almost any question, or statement. Like:

"Did you have a good day at work?"
"I love traveling!"
"Can you have those drawings ready by tomorrow?"

Sherlock-ed

Saw the third (and last) episode of Sherlock season three tonight, over at E's place. I adore this series. I love everything about it. There's hasn't been an episode where I haven't been sitting there, thinking "well, I didn't see that one coming!"
It's up there - on my top three list of best TV-series ever. Along with Buffy and Doctor Who. Moffat and Whedon, those guys get me all the time!

Like a glove!

Today I spent half the day in Sandnes, on a seminar about the importance of daylight. Very interesting! Afterwards I took a short walk in the sunshine - appropriate no? and ran across these pretty gloves on sale at H&M. I know it seems silly to buy winter stuff now as spring is upon us, but I couldn't resist the green bling-bling on these. And to be honest, I will probably need to wear gloves for another month.

Premiere

Me and E had the 2014 drinking-wine-outside-in-the-sun premiere today! Yay!

Now it 21:00 and I'm going to sleep, since I'm suuuuper tired. Not from too much wine in the sun, but from the combination much to do at work and having a cold. Goodnight.

Monday, 10th of March

I'm starting to repeat myself...

Top three today:

  • Lindy hop. Truly is a great way to start a week
  • Falling asleep in the couch. Just love doing that
  • Breakfast yogurt. Non stop edition

Setback

So when we left the house to go for a walk this morning we noticed this:

This is what happens when you try to prettify a street where a lot of drunken people walk home after a Saturday night out. Pisses me off. Yes, maybe I should have realized that placing a pot next to our steps that leads straight on to the sidewalk would be pushing my luck, but still! Annoying. Lucky for the people doing this I didn't caught them in the act...

And lucky for me, the daffodils didn't get harmed and I had another pot just waiting to be filled with something pretty, so hah! In your face stupid drunken marauders! This pot will be placed safely inside our fence though...

Spring sprang sprung

Tulips regrown from bulbs I found in the garden last year and hid away in the shed. They survived, and have risen again!

No more cold feet

Seems like this is the week of unexpected gifts: Today A went sightseeing with his parents while I was at work and brought home this fashionable gift for me! With anti-slip soles. Practical and cute!

The good, the bad and the tired

Best about today: we're having A's parents over for the weekend! Besides the fact that it's really nice to have them here, they also brought a bunch of awesome gifts from Sweden, like a whole box full of bulbs! And candy! Can't wait to eat/plant...

Not do good about today: I have a pretty bad cold, my nose is red and constantly running... And I'm tired... And I have to go to work tomorrow...

Töysekopp

We had K&H and baby E over for dinner today and I got a gift... A cat-in-a-bow-cup and a Töysekopp! Perfection!

gardening, first session

If you want to have the most beautiful garden in Storhaug you have to start early... The first of March I began by cleaning up, cutting away dead flowers and branches and "building" a simple trellis for the clematis and honeysuckle in the corner of the garden, with the help of some hooks and wires. I also emptied out old soil in some of the big planters and prepared for a new season of happy flowers.

But best of all - had my first seed planting session, both vegetables and flowers. I love this part of gardening, I really find it both exciting and fascinating to see what comes up and what doesn't make it. This year I'm experimenting with artichoke, a tricky one I hear, and later I will try to grow sweet potatoes and Jerusalem artichoke, two of my favorites things to eat.

Monday the 3rd of March

Not the best Monday, this one. Not in any way the worst either, just a very blah Monday.

Top Three this Monday:

1. Cricket. She's so snugly in the morning. We woke up with her in-between our heads today. A big pile of warm and fluffy fur might be the best thing to wake up to. Lovely!
2. Buying seeds. Flower seeds. I like seeds.
3. Brownies. Because, you know, brownies.

and then spring came

I will not accept any more winter. True, we haven't really had any real winter this year, only a few days of snow and temperature below zero, but that only makes me long for spring more - not just this semi-autumn we've had since October...

This weekend we have spend a lot of time with our friends R&L visiting from Aberdeen. And luckily it seems like mother nature agrees with me when it comes to the spring-thing, because we've had beautiful weather and could show our friends a Stavanger looking its best. Yay!
