almost famous

So, remeber how I blogged about my personal vintage shopping-date with Elsa Billgren last week? Well, so did she, here's a link to her blogpost. Is it weird that my mouth waters when I look back at that clothes-rack with all the clothes I tried on that day? So. Much. Fun.

a couple of things...

...that I found on the "castle-flea-market" on Saturday. A roll of fancy wall paper (don't know what to use it for yet, but you never know) and stainless-steel cuff-links with "A"s on them, a gift for my A. If the other guy in the house doesn't claim them first, that is.

Gold in a can

Ever since I bought my gold spray paint I've had these episodes when I just want to spray every thing gold... This time my plan was just to pimp a bunch of fridge-magnets that I bought from IKEA, but I ended up spraying a boring old vase and some leaves as well!

This might be my best, simplest and most addictive DIY tip. Spray away! Just make sure to be somewhere well ventilated (like outside) and to have somewhere to keep the newly sprayed items before taking them inside - the smell pretty strongly...

this week

Hello Monday!
I'm right in the middle of two veeeery hectic and exhausting weeks. Too much to do at work travelling included and many fun things in between that don't get all the attention I want to give the due to lack of time and energy. True to my nature, I end up spending the little unplanned time I have curled up in the sofa with the cats, watching TV-series, eating junk food and candy. But that's fine, I will back in to my usual schedule again next week (with some new interesting additions - I tell you later). Plus it will all get better when A returns from his two weeks away on swim-trekking + work course.

For me, it always helps to make lists out of things when I feel overwhelmed, then the feeling of "Aaaargh! I have so much to dooo" gets more manageable, So here's a summary of the coming week in list-form:

Go to work
Drop off dresses at dry cleaners
Book a taxi
Pack an overnight-bag

Fly to Bergen for meetings (don't forget drawings, iPad and charger)
Bring home-spa items so I can relax in the hotel! Maybe it has a bathtub...
Call Grandad

Meetings all day in Bergen, fly back to Stavanger
Hang out with the cats
Pack weekend-bag, with wedding-clothes for me and A (NB: not our wedding)
Go to the office and print some drawings for Thursday meeting
Book a taxi

Start day with meeting in Forus
Rest of the day, workshop at the office with new client
Pick up dry-cleaning
Mend the "new" green dress for wedding
Go to the BATS-play with E&T

Start day with meetings in Forus
Go home a bit early if possible?
Cuddle with the cats
Fly to Gothenburg, stay at moms house

Meet up A in Gothenburg
Lunch with dad?
Wedding in Öckerö

fly back to Stavanger
cuddle with A and the cats.

Stockholm weekend, Häringe and Dalarö

Not only did I do some spectacular vintage shopping on my trip to Stockholm this weekend, I also got to spend some quality time with M&S. After a tip from another of my favorite vintage bloggers, Emma, we decided to explore a flea-market at Häringe castle on the Saturday. A castle flea-market seemed to good to miss, but we were not all that impressed when we got there. I found a couple of small things, but most fun was to explore the eclectic surroundings of this castle-now-turned hotel.

When we had tired of Häringe, and couldn't find a good place there to have a cup of coffee, we continued to Dalarö, where we found a great place to do so. This is such a picturesque place, and the weather was perfect for leisurely strolling around, looking at pretty houses and gardens. And gates.

Luxury Friday in Stockholm

So. Back in May when I had my birthday my beloved A gave me this fabulous gift - a personal vintage shopping-day with Elsa Billgren. Elsa is a well known vintage-profile in Sweden, both when it comes to clothes, but also in decorating interiors with vintage finds. She has built her own company starting with her blog, but is also a tv-host, she has written two books and she rents out vintage wedding dresses and well, you can book a date with her as you guide in the vintage clothes jungle in Stockholm, as I did on Friday.

I have red her blog since 2009, it was actually the first blog I started to follow, and I admire her for many reasons, like how she promotes sustainable consumption, and the fact that she has sort of made her own career up based on her interest and passions. And, I am happy to say, she is as inspiring in person as she come across on her blog, and a truly pleasant person to be around. I had a great time, and she had dug out some really fabulous clothes at Beyond Retro in Zinkensdam where we started our day. I had a blast trying out dresses from the 50s, 60s,70s and 80s and ended up buying a bunch of stuff. I have planned for this for a while, and since good vintage is really hard to find in Stavanger I took the opportunity to treat myself.

four 60s and one 80s dress, plus a beret and a 60s blouse was the result from the trip to Beyond Retro

I didn't buy anything at Judith's second hand, but I tried that lovely cardigan on... I just can't convince myself to buy stuff with fur though.
Here's a glimpse of my guide and one of the owners of Uppåt Väggarna where Elsa found me a very wearable skirt and an awesome shawl.

waiting for something good

my tomato plant that I had growing in a pot got damaged from some strong winds before the tomatoes ripened. I rescued some of the cute, green little ones and they have now been living in a bowl in my kitchen window for a couple of weeks now, and it looks like might be having me some salad soon...

Good morning

My (not really daily but...) morning routine consist of me waking up, preparing a smoothie, going for 20 minute run/jog, taking a shower and then relaxing in front of a good tv-show on Netflix for 30-40 minutes with my smoothie, breakfast muffin and a nice big cup of tea, before getting ready for work.  It is a pretty awesome way to start a day, and I'm super happy I only have a 10 minute walk to work so I can do all this without having to wake up before I actually go to bed...

I've been posting about my favorite tea-types before, but now I've tried a new one: Pukka - Cleanse!

I didn't really buy this one for its cleansing properties, but once again I was tempted by the fennel... this is a great morning tea, with just the right amount of freshness thanks to the peppermint.

My princess-dress

When I was a kid I used to draw a lot. One of the things I portrayed most often as a six year old - not so uncommonly - was princesses. I used to draw them in dresses with a lot of bows and frills - think Disney - and the skirts often had a kind of curtain-like skirt made of two types of fabric, one opening up over the other, know what I mean? This dress that I found on Etsy a while back reminds me of those dresses. I very rarely go full out Disney-princess style-wise but I'm invited to a wedding in two weeks and I need to decide what to wear. This might do, with a bit of ironing...

Dress from the Etsy-shop Archetypevintage.

And I need to invest in a better lens to my camera, this is catastrophic...

How you make a city beautiful

On Sunday I went on a Nuart-walk in the city. Nuart is an annual street art festival here in Stavanger, and it's one of my favorite thing about this town. Have a look at some of the artwork and you'll see what I mean:

The last picture - with the people running on the side of the wall - is my favorite, They are made by Norwegian artist  Strøk, and you can find his people on other facades in Stavanger too. I think they are brilliant. Very Inception

Monday. Just saying.

This week started off in a lousy way... I woke up ten minutes before the alarm went off from an absolutely horrifying nightmare about zombies, giant killer-trees and knife throwing children. And then I checked out the results from yesterday's election in Sweden. Sigh. I'm glad we're going to change government but our third largest party after this election is a xenophobic party. I though better of Sweden...

Anyway. The rest of the day was pretty mediocre but then I  had a 3,5 hour long session of Lindy hop, and now I'm sweaty and happy! Good times! But still, seriously Sweden...

This town I live in... so many wonderful houses...

time to do something about the hay - I mean hair.

Today I'm off to the hairdresser! Woooot wooot!

the grandma-plant

I never remember what this flower/plan is called. I think it might be some kind of begonia? But anyway. This is a plant that I got as a cutting from my grandmother last Christmas, and for a long time it looked as it would't survive the trip back from Sweden in my handbag. But it did! And is now growing strong. And the best thing is that this plant is a descendant to one that my dads grandmother had in her home. I think. Isn't that cool? And now it lives here, on a windowsill in Stavanger, next to a tiny rabbit in a glass-box...

#ootd On short skirts

Today when I woke up I was in a bit of a hurry since I had decided to snooze for 1,5 h and didn't have a plan on what to wear. Oh well, I was only going to sit in front of my computer the whole day, working on some office layouts so I just wanted to put something comfortable and warm on. Which I did. Before I left the house I also decided in the spur of the moment (because it wasn't raining) to try out a new pair of shoes I bough a while back. But then at work I got a comment (which was meant as a compliment, I'm sure) from one of my colleagues on how chic I looked with such a short skirt...

And the rest of the day I caught myself pulling at them hem of the skirt and wondering if maybe I'm too old, or too curvy to wear this length of skirt. But then I realized that I don't mind this length on other people, and that I should try to give myself a break. Plus, my mom tells me I look good in skirts above knee-length, and this precise dress was actually a gift from my dad...

Isn't it sad how you can let an off hand comment mess up your mind like that?

Bunker exploration

I have some of my favorite people visiting from Sweden this weekend, and today we defied the weather and went exploring the lighthouse and bunkers on the island Fjøløy.
Me and A decided that we are going to buy a bunker and make a house out of it...
