I have been in a bad mood for over a week. I can't put a finger on why, but even the smallest issues makes me anxious, annoyed and sad. And no, it's not PMS. It makes me annoyed that you'd even think that. Also I have a cold and a lot to do at work. Netflix isn't as inspiring anymore and I've run out of audio-books. Just so you know why I haven't updated here in a while - you wouldn't like to read more of this, right? Anyway. This weekend we're going on a classic Norwegian "hyttetur" (spending some time in a cabin somewhere in nature) with good friends and I'm sure that will brighten up my mood. I plan to bring my fishing rod and warm clothes and I'm sure there will be wine, board-games and food. Good stuff... Until then I'll just keep on browsing the "humor" and "geek" pages on Pinterest. And hide under a blanket with cat and cat.

Say hello to my new iPhone 6+ and my pretty kittycat-case! I'm still not used to how big this phone is (needs to hands to operate), but it works fine and I love how I now can take pictures for the blog directly with my phone without it being a complete catastrophe.

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt

Today I had a pretty good day to start with, then a couple of minor issues at work got me in a bad mood and now I feel even worse for being grumpy the rest of the day... Best remedy for that? Paint an edgy design on my nails, put on my new River Song t-shirt and skip yoga to snuggle up in the couch.
Plus promise myself to be a more positive version of me tomorrow...

Tuesday tune

Moving inside

The garden is starting to look pretty sad now even though some things are still blooming, mostly it's overgrown, wind-blown and messy. Therefore it's nice to move some of my projects indoors so I can keep honing my garden skills during the colder season! These are cuttings from some of my hydrangea plants I have outside, and it looks like they might have survived. Crossing my fingers.

Last week I treated myself to this pink and happy sweater from Moods of Norway. As it becomes cooler and cooler all I want to wear is warm knits, so I think this will be frequently in use. Here paired with two other favourotes, a skirt from Weekday and shoes from J Lindeberg

grown up Sunday

One thing I've noticed since I began with the pretty busy week-schedule I have, with activities almost every evening, is the importance of Sundays... I use Saturdays to recover from the past week and Sundays to prepare for the coming one. This usually means that on Saturdays I do nothing, except watching Netflix, eat candy and maybe go for a short shopping trip, but in a way I like Sundays even more. That's when I do all of the stuff I didn't have time for or prioritized during the week, like doing the laundry, mending clothes and do the dishes. Things that take some time, but with an exciting audio-book in my ears feel totally OK to do. I also try, like today, to prepare extra food, for example my breakfast muffins, and hang out some outfits to chose from during the week, to simplify my morning routines. I'm basically a teenager all week, trying to avoid cleaning and cooking but on Sundays I turn into a middle aged home-maker and do everything at once.

Last week I was so busy with the roller derby boot-camp that I didn't have time to do any of those things during the weekend, and that resulted in me skipping both yoga and the gym-session with the RD-gang later in the week, just because I felt too unprepared... silly, I know, but that's how I work. Fortunately I redeemed myself today, so bring it on new week! I even took the time to sort out my workout clothes to remove yet another excuse for not going to any of my activities. If I hadn't just burned my muffins I'd call this day a complete success...

#tbt that time when

E and I (and Nemo) found a free bench and carried it home to my garden from the other side of Storhaug. That's what friends are for.

Two new old ones

Two new vintage dresses I got in the mail today, after finding them on epla.no. The one on the left is an unused dress that I bought because I like the pattern and the details on the chest. I will probably shorten both the skirt and the sleeves for it to become more wearable, but the blue one I'll keep exactly like it is. I think it will look lovely with a white belt and tan sandals in the summer!

The Magpie, now on wheels

One of my new years resolutions this year was to try more new things. So far I have started doing yoga on a regular basis and I've become addicted to dancing Lindy Hop once a week. But this will also be the year when I tried another new thing, Roller Derby! Here's a link to a YouTube video if you don't know what that is... skip to 3 minutes in for info. Here's a short explanation I stoel from wikipedia;

"Roller derby is a Contact sport played by two teams of five Roller_skating in the same direction around a track. Game play consists of a series of short matchups ("jams") in which both teams designate a scoring player (the "jammer") who scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to assist their own jammer while hindering the opposing jammer—in effect, playing both offense and defense simultaneously"

Anyway, before this weekend I had only watched one training session on skates and joined in on three gym-sessions (that's what I do on Wednesdays) where we do group training with an awesome PT. This means I hadn't actually started skating yet before Saturday, since I only just got my gear (skates, a helmet, knee and elbow pads, mouth guard...) last week. I bought everything used, except the mouth guard, on finn.no, from a girl in Oslo, and luckily everything fit!

Then came this weekend and the "Fresh meat boot-camp". An opportunity for me and the other beginners to train on the basic skating skills and learn a bit about rules and technique. Me and the other beginners (who started in August) will not be a part of the actual team and allowed to take part in a game until we've managed the skills needed, but I'm pretty glad for that. Not only is this a contact sport, and all contacts sports are more dangerous if you play with people who don't know what they're doing, but there's also a lot of rules and if I started too soon I'd end up spending every game in the penalty box... or face down on the floor...

Anyway... the first time I put the skates on at home I felt like I was going to fall on my ass immediately. Fortunately, it felt a lot better on the actual camp, and I think I did pretty good - skate-wise considering it was the first time I tried. After 7 hours of training on Saturday (including some theory) and 5 hours on Sunday I'm still pretty bad at breaking (!) and completely clueless when it comes to blocking and jamming. But I didn't hurt myself, and I look forward to put the skates back on...

Cricket update

Remember this post? Well, here's an update:

Yesterday A took Cricket to the vet for a check-up. She's now been off the antibiotics for about two weeks after a month on. After the last visit to the vet we pretty much expected to be told that all of her teeth needed to be pulled out if her gums didn't look all better now. But, seemes like the vet think we should wait a bit longer. Cricket is not behaving like she is in pain, she eats well (she is a rather round little cat weighing in on about 7,6kg) and the vet wanted us to give the mouth-wash another go, before taking any drastic measures. In a way it's a great relief, but I just wish we could solve the problem for her. Poor thing.

Nails. Don't like 'em right now

I've been going on and on about the terrible shape my nails are in this past year, I know. I've tried all kind of nail-polishes that claims to strengthen the nails, but they don't help. I've painted my nails a lot during this time, but the polishes always peel, and then I start to peel my nails too. This polish from essie, is the first one I've tried in a looong while that didn't peel for at least four days, and continues looking good. It's called "fill the gap" and is an anti-age treatment... it is also supposed to even out damages to the nails. And it might, I don't know. I just know it looks fine after several days, the color is bland but nice and well, I will continue to use it.

give me something to blog about

(For those of you who are well versed in the Buffyverse you surely recognize where I stole that headline from, right?)

This little blog of mine have suffered from neglect lately. It's actually not that I don't have stuff to blog about, but I've been too busy and/or too tired to blog. And unorganized. I'm slowly getting back in to my regular routine, so I hope this will change soon. Until then, since I really liked doing it last week: here's my schedule for this one! Not as much travelling - hopefully much more activity.

go for a short run
work - I have several set meetings on Mondays so it's a busy day
Lindy Hop!

short morning workout
work - need to get some drawings done and delivered
post-yoga dinner with E&T at our place

short morning run again
(A will take Cricket to the vet for a check-up)
work - another day spent in front of Revit probably. I like that.
do some errands in town
group-workout with PT

meetings in Bergen the whole day. Plane leaves at eight, and I'm back home at five, I hope.
Relax and hang out with the cats.

morning run, if I feel like it
work - a few informal meetings, nothing big
restorative yoga,,, best thing

Satuday and Sunday
I'm getting started with a new hobby I'll tell you more about later this week...

Friday, 3 October 2014

I'm spending my Friday evening just like any other weekday this week, by watching Netflix, hanging out with A, cuddling with the cats and eating candy. Considering I've spent two weekends in a row traveling I see this as a very, very good thing. Plus I get to play with my new iPhone 6+ too, witch is fun.

three good things about today

1. I booked a trip to London in February with my mates T&E. Wooot wooot!
2. I got a new phone. Yay!
3. I was reminded on how extremely nice and thoughtful some of my colleagues are.

today I drank a tree

This is one of the weirdest things I've ever drunk. Birch-juice. Tasted kind of lemony-apple-ish. Very refreshing.
